  Hello. I’m a web building virgin, and am here to create a website that celebrates my village and its businesses, packed with news and events etc.

  Ideally I would like to turn a profit by offering advertising to local businesses (they will all be listed alphabetically, by category, for free).

  My question: is WordPress the web builder to use for this?

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  Yes, but NOT WordPress.com. Ads and sponsored posts or content are banned here. You will have to buy hosting elsewhere, install software from WordPress.ORG, and away you go.
