local installation of wordpress not working

  I am running Mac OS SERVER 5.2 on Mac OS X sierra.

  I have installed sql on my server, set up a database and I have set up wordpress.
  when setup is finished, I am directed to the admin login page of my wordpress installation. and it prompts me to log in. However when I enter my username and password, instead of directing me to the admin console, it goes back to the login screen and prompt me again to login.

  I do not know what I am doing wrong. Please help.
