Local posts in iPad app

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi!

What is the difference between local posts and general posts in a WordPress for iPad app? Some of my posts are local now and I don’t understand neither how I can make them back normal, no how did it happen. Could you please help me with both issues? Thank you!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

I’m not really familiar with our iPad app keeping local copies of posts. It doesn’t generally do that! Could you upload a screenshot of what you’re speaking about to your site’s Media Library and then post a link to it so that I can have a better idea of what is going on?

    Thank you very much!

Dear amightywp, I’m not sure if this is a correct link (or how to get a link to an image). Hope this will work

    Thank you very much!

Looks like the link doesn’t work. This is a link to the library. Can you use it? This is the last file apploaded. https://vnimatelnost.wordpress.com/wp-admin/upload.php

    Thanks for sending that screenshot!

Usually a second section only appears like what you’ve got there if your iPad wasn’t connected to the Internet when you went to publish your posts. In my version of the iPad app, it says “Failed” instead of Local, but it may be that you have a different version of the app!

We have a help article which gives some advice if you have a Local copy of any posts:

    http://ios.wordpress.org/faq/#faq_9

Let me know if this doesn’t work out for you!

I’m afraid it’s not an Internet connection issue. If I’m not connected it says “Failed” also. But I was connected when these posts suddenly became local. I even didn’t get what happened. It looks like it didn’t influence the site appearance but I’m still curious what does it mean. D you have any apps support? Somebody who has done this thing?

I have a question regarding my other site but don’t know if I can ask it here or should open another thread. So I will try here.
    It’s about mindfulbusinessrussia.wordpress.com.
I have a Forefront Theme and I want this site to look as little as a blog as possible. So I tried to remove all Like buttons in all settings, to remove tag cloud on pages and comments. But still there problems.

If you go to Testimonials you will see that there are still an archive and tags and categories and comments. But it is supposed to be a simple testimonials page without any blog’s attributes! How can I change it? And please don’t do it for me – tell me how to change the settings as I want to learn.

    Thank you!

    Heya,

I’ve reached out to the department who designs the iOS app, and it sounds like you may not have the most recent version loaded on to your iPad. Depending on how you drafted your post, a local copy can be made and saved on your iPad. You can go in to the post, hit the status, and publish it while connected to the Internet and it should be transmitted to your site.

In regards to your site mindfulbusinessrussia.wordpress.com, there are a few things which are causing it to look how it is.

The items on the right hand side of the screen are widgets which you can remove by logging in to your Dashboard and then going to Appearance >> Widgets. The list of widgets on the right can be edited or removed from your page.

The comments section will require you to edit the page itself and disable commenting. You can follow this help center article to see exactly what to do:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/enable-disable-comments/

But this is exactly the question! I went to page settings in the top of the screen and disabled all these widgets!!! But they still appear!

I want them to be only on a blog page. If I remove a widget it will disappear on a blog page as well. Is there any option to differ the appearance of a blog page and all other pages?

  • Unknown's avatar

Yes there is indeed. You can modify which pages a widget appears on by changing it’s visibility. You can do so by following the instructions which are included on this help article page:

    Widgets

It works!!! Thank you. But there is still a problem with comments. I have disabled them on all pages except Blog, but they still appear. What else can I do – may be there are some other settings I have to check?

I just went and took a look, and it looks like you’ve not yet disabled the the “Allow Comments” for all of your pages.

In order to do so, you will need to go to each one of your pages, edit it, and in the Discussion section, uncheck the “Allow Comments” option. Once you do, you can click the Update button for the page and the comments section will disappear.

If the Discussion section is not there, you’ll need to follow the directions right here to make it display:

Now it’s fine, thank you very much!

I’m glad to hear it! Have a fantastic weekend!

I’m sorry, that’s me again. I hope it’s the last question for now (but can’t promise, this theme happened to be much mo difficult then others I used).

Is there a chance to create dropdown categories in pages? Like for example I have a front page. And in a header on a front page I have Home, About, Programs, Blog, Testimonials. These are pages. But what if I want About to be a number of pages: about us, about our clients, about our basics, etc. So is there a chance to make so that when a client put a cursor on About there are a dropdown of pages: about us, about our basics and so on?

Does my question sound clear? I’m sorry, I don’t know all these words to call half off things on my site. Oh.

    Thank you

  • Unknown's avatar

Yes, you can indeed do that. That’s something called submenus, and is something which you can create in your Custom Menus interface.

You can follow the instructions which are included right here:

    Menus
