Lock blog with a message?
-
Is there any way to close off my entire blog with a message to visitors? Or have a custom page viewed on the main URL?

You can password protect your whole “private” blog http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/05/07/can-i-password-protect-my-whole-blog/

If you don’t care about stats and page rank you can also have a static front page http://faq.wordpress.com/2007/02/20/having-a-static-page-at-the-front-of-the-blog/

You can also make all pages private except for the main page, which you can leave a message on.
Alternately you could create a static front page (with comments off) with the message and then again, like I said, make all other pages private.

This is where to set your blog as “private” -> Options -> Privacy

___I would like to block search engines, but allow normal visitors
___I would like my blog to be visible only to users I chooseMake one of the last 2 choices and click “Update Options” to save.

You can as thesacredspace says have a static front page and then password protect posts http://faq.wordpress.com/2007/04/12/what-is-the-post-status/

You’re welcome and happy blogging. :)
P.S. The option to mark this thread “resolved” is in your original post.
