locked out of account; need to pay to reestablish service
-
We missed the deadline for the annual fee because the renewal notice got sent to the email address of the person who originally started our department page. I am now the admin for the account, but can no longer sign in to take care of business. The address is fmuenglish.com. How can I get back in?

Hi @shelveenstra,
I have added the modlook tag to this topic so a nice member of the staff can help you with your request. Make sure to have all the documents/proof of payments regarding the account so the staff can confirm that you are indeed the account holder.

Be aware that companies, organizations and groups of any kind do not own blogs.Every WordPress.COM blog has a sole owner. It is the person with the WordPress.COM username account who registered the blog under that username account and a single associated email address, and who is the original Admin of the blogs registered under that username account.
You have to be logged in as Admin http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/#administrator under the exact same username account that registered the blog to access the blog’s dashboard and renew any upgrades purchased for the site.
You will need to contact the actual owner of the site ASAP and have them renew or transfer the blog to your username account so you can renew.

It looks like the domain on that site was renewed yesterday. However, while you are an admin on the site, your username account is not the owner of the blog, nor the upgrades so that’s the extent of the help I can give.If the person who owns that account is no longer with your company, they will need to transfer the blog to someone who is, as @timethief has said. We cannot do this for you – only the person who registered the blog and owns the upgrades can transfer it.
Let me know if you have more questions about this.

Thanks everyone for your help! We did get everything squared away again, and I can get back into the website. @kokkieh, the problem was that once the domain name expired, the website reverted back to an old version in which a former colleague was administrator, and my credentials were not even associated with the page. I don’t know why that happened, since it has all returned to normal now. Here’s hoping we never run into that problem again.

While you can access it, I want to repeat that you are not the owner, so this account will never be able to cancel the upgrades or delete the site, should you wish to. Only the account that owns it will be able to do that, so I really recommend you get the current owner to transfer the site to you if you’re now responsible for that, otherwise you’ll keep having problems like this in future.

you really need to address the ownership of the upgrades and have them transferred to an account you have control over – or you will go through this whole thing in 12 months again – and your site will again be broken
listen to @kokkieh on this one – the time to fix this is now while you are thinking about it and have a better chance of contacting the correct people than you will in a year
