Locked out of old account, no proof of ownership, what do I do?
-
Hi, I wanted to make some changes to an old WordPress blog, but I could not log in. I relied on a password manager for my login details, and those details went after I lost a lot of data during a recent hard drive failure. It must have been registered to an old email account that I’ve forgotten, because none of my current email addresses seem to register when I try to reset my password. Because of this I have no proof of ownership. Is there a way to get back in?

Hi there,
Can you share your site address?
If the site is hosted on WordPress.com, you can try to regain access to your account by following the methods given at the below link:
Also, please note that this forum is for WordPress.com hosted sites only. If your site is using the open-source WordPress.org then check the below link:

Thanks!

Hi, thanks for the reply.
The main site on my account is https://tomplkphotography.wordpress.com/
I tried the account recovery page, but I don’t have the proof of ownership required.

Hi have you tried entering your original WPcom username
tomplkin the password reset form instead of an email address?First log out of this account entirely and then visit https://wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword
Let us know how that goes.

Thanks justjennifer,
I have, but the password reset email is not coming through to any of my current email addresses. I can only assume that it’s goingthrough to a really old email address, or it’s just no going through at all. I’ll try and find an old email, if I can still remember them.

Okay, I found an old email address, got back into it, and there’s nothing there from WordPress, so I’m assuming that’s not the right email. Any other suggestions would be welcome.

If it will help I can send an email to the address on the account. I can’t tell you where it’s being delivered though, as that would be a violation of user privacy. Let me know if you’d like to try that.

Okay, thanks, it’s worth a try I suppose – although I suspect that my old contact email is something that I set up ages ago and have lost the details.
-
Okay, one more idea: I can provide details on some blogs that are hidden on that account. If I were to message a member of staff with this, would that count as proof of ownership?
