Locked out of old WordPress site

My account is registered under my email address, which is the same email address that I used to create this WordPress site – https://cardinalwritesgames.wordpress.com/
I can’t get into this website now. I still have emails from comments on my posts but when I log into this email address’s account I cannot access this site, it does not appear as one of my sites. What’s going on? I want to get into my old account! To test it I followed my old site with this account and received an email saying that I had a new follower… with the same email address on both accounts.

cardinalwritesgames.wordpress.com is owned by another WordPress.com account. The cardinalred8 account you are currently logged in to is not listed as a user, which is why you are unable to access the site from My Sites.
If you haven’t done so already, please try resetting your password from the Lost Password page:

The two accounts are registered to the same email address, but when I log in (with the email address) I can only access one of the accounts (cardinalred8). Does that make sense?

Can you clarify this part? It’s not possible to have two WordPress.com accounts with the same email ID.
Have you tried logging into the WordPress.com account associated with this WordPress.com site? https://cardinalwritesgames.wordpress.com/
If you don’t know the password, you can reset it here https://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword and then try to login.

I still have emails relating to the cardinalwritesgames.wordpress.com site which are on the same address as this account (cardinalred8). The only option I have when I log into WordPress is to enter my email address, and when I try to reset the password it is for this account (cardinalred8). I have emails received for both accounts under the same address. I understand that my old site is under another account but I cannot access that account, when I use my email address to log in it takes me straight to this account.

The two accounts are registered to the same email address
We require each WordPress.com account to use a unique email address, which means two accounts cannot share the same email address.
I can’t tell you which email address is connected to the other account for security reasons. However, I can send an email to the address we have on file for the owner. Would you like me to go ahead and do so?

That’s a good idea, please try that.
Just a note – my email address currently has emails on it relating to both accounts, old notifications of comments as well as emails regarding the account I’m using now. I’m not sure why this is. I do not use any other email addresses.

Nothing received which obviously means the address you have is a different one. Can you explain why this might be? All of my notifications from previous use of this account have gone to the email address registered on the cardinalred8 account. I have multiple emails received over the last few years to show this. I would just like to access my old site!

If you have access to emails about the other account, you could try looking for an activation URL, which can be used for Account Recovery:
As much as I’d like to help you, I won’t be able to help you recover the site without access to the current email address or proof of ownership.

Thanks for your help. Are you able to tell me what the account username is? I’ll know the password to get in, but I think the email address used was my university email account which I no longer have access to. I must have added my current email address as some form of contact as I have received emails regarding this account. In terms of proof of ownership I have various emails like I have said with notifications of followers, comments, etc.

You can try logging in with the username jjrussell92. If that works, the email address can be updated through your account.

We are only able to accept certain pieces of information as proof of ownership, which doesn’t include notification of followers or comments.
Let me know how you get on with logging in as jjrussell92.

It looks like you changed the email address on your jjrussell92 account some time ago and the old email address is now being used for another account — which is why the emails for both accounts appeared in the same inbox.
