Locked out of site
-
Hi, I tried to change the address of my website and got the error message
403 – Forbidden: Access is denied.
You do not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials that you supplied.
I now can’t access the WP-Admin for the site, and the site itself is offline. How can I get back in to change the settings back to what they were before? -
I don’t see any WordPress.com sites under your account here.
What is the URL of the site with the problem?
-
I tried to change it to http://scottishmicroscopysociety.org.uk/ in the settings as we also own that domain, so now it’s just redirecting to a blank screen.

We won’t be able to help you here as your site is hosted on 1&1 Ionos, not on WordPress.com.
Because WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two entirely separate entities, we cannot access files or data for sites that are hosted elsewhere, so WordPress.com staff can only assist with sites that are hosted on our servers. You can read more about the differences between WordPress.org software and WordPress.com here:
You can look for help at the community forums here: https://wordpress.org/support/forums/
http://wordpress.org/support/ is also a great resource for sites using the open-source WordPress.org software.

Thanks. It seems that I can log in to my account at wordpress.com but it doesn’t exist on wordpress.org, even though we are running it through wordpress.org. Why is this?
-
WordPress.com and WordPress.org are completely independent of each other. If you lost the password to the site or you tried resetting your password and failed, please read the Codex article “Resetting Your Password” to learn how to reset your password:
https://wordpress.org/support/article/resetting-your-password/For more help, you will want to reach out via https://wordpress.org/support/forums/ – we are not able to help you here.
