lodestar child pages

    Hi,
    To create child pages to lodestar, do i have to create them as portafolios? or can I just create a normal page, then page attributes: portafolio template? because the second option doesn’t work for me.
    I want that when someone clicks the parent page from the main menu, opens the page with the three submenus (image with an excerpt) then they click the image and takes them to the content for that page.
    But for now when I open that main page it doesn’t show anything. Thanks
