Lodestar display on home page with Safari

  • Unknown's avatar

I have a couple of issues with the way Lodestar displays on the home page when using Safari (it doesn’t happen with FF).

    • 1) when the page first loads, the height of the navigation header doesn’t scale down see here screenshot
    • 2) there is a gap at the bottom of one of the panels screenshot

Moving through out the site and refreshing these issues go away but should they be there in the first place??

    Hi there,

This is usually a browser related issue. Which version of Safari are you running?

Read all the tips here https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/

    • Make sure you are running an up to date browser version found at http://browsehappy.com
    • Make sure you have JavaScript and third party cookies enabled https://en.support.wordpress.com/third-party-cookies/#how-do-i-enable-third-party-cookies.
    • Disable any adblocker browser add-ons.
    • Try clearing your browser cache https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-your-browser-cache
    • Try using another browser.

If you are not successful please post this specific info here:
    (a) Exactly what kind of device you are using to connect to the internet and to WordPress.com.
    (b) Exactly which browser (and version of it) you’re using by checking here if necessary http://supportdetails.com/

  • Hi tenderdentalcare,

there is a gap at the bottom of one of the panels

Thanks for reporting this. I was able to replicate this in Safari 10.1.1 on MacOS Sierra, so I’ve asked the developers to take a look. We’ll reply here once we have word back from them.

when the page first loads, the height of the navigation header doesn’t scale down

As timethief mentioned, it would be helpful to know more about your setup so I can try to replicate this. I think I may have seen it once after resizing the browser multiple times, but I’m finding that I can’t get it to happen again. It might only be happening at a very specific browser width.

Could you actually try http://supportdetails.net instead of the .com variant?
On the right it gives you a link to share the details. Copy and paste that into your reply and I’ll have a look.

    Hi guys,
Thanks for looking into this for me.
Here are details of my set up as requested support details. [link removed by staff]

  • Hmm, so I’m still not able to replicate this with the same browser version and browser window size (1256 x 611). I tried making the browser one pixel wider at a time near the point at which the contact us menu item moves onto the same line with the other menu items, but I couldn’t replicate it even with that.

If you clear your browser cache, can you replicate it afterwards?

If so, can you check to see if you have any extensions enabled (checked) via Safari > Preferences > Extensions? If any are enabled, disable them and let me know if you still have the same problem with the navigation.

    Hi,
Clearing the browser cache doesn’t make any difference and I don’t have any extensions installed. I’ve noticed it happens always when I open a new tab and start typing in the web address. Safari completes it for me and when I return the website is displayed with the gappy heading.

Hi @tenderdentalcare, this is sort of a long shot, but can you go to your site and get it to do it again, and then after the site loads, click on the title in the address bar and copy that out and paste it into a reply here? I’m just wanting to make sure that the browser isn’t autocompleting the address with some added stuff at the end of the URL.

I am also using this theme for another client and I have the same issue.

    Thanks for your perseverance.

^ Apologies, I wrote the last reply when I was logged into WP with my own account rather than my client’s.

No worries. Like @dcoleonline, I’m only randomly able to reproduce the issue with the header, and when I get it to happen, I cannot see anything in the CSS that would be causing this. I’ll work on figuring out how to consistently produce this issue, and then I can get a developer to have a look at it.

Generally for me, the header area loads momentarily taller and then corrects to the right height in a second or less.

Apologies I’ve been on my hols so only now replying to your last posting.
Yes, I have also seen it load taller and then correct but for me, it seems that the ‘correction’ isn’t happening. With my hubby’s iMac which has El Capitan v 10.11.6 and the same version of Safari 10.1.1 it displays fine. So maybe it is Sierra related or just something peculiar to my laptop :(.

It may be the version on Safari on your laptop, but I was able to randomly see it on El Capitan with 10.1.1 on my laptop. If you have another browser installed on your laptop, such as Firefox or Chrome, you might want to play around with it and see how things behave.
