Help, I am working on an existing website and I have user name and password for it. The person that gave me these things was able to log in. When I try to sign in using the user name, it indicates that that user name does not exist. What do I do?

  • Hi! What is the URL of the site you’re trying to access? I do not see one connected to the account you are contacting us from.

    Let us know. Thanks!

I am logged in as myself now but I want to work on a site that has the email of (email visible only to moderators and staff)
Every time I try to log in, it says there is no user name by that name. Though another woman was able to log right in.

How can I access this site?

It is for Jung Society of Austin.

  • Hi there,

That site is not hosted on WordPress.com, but using the open source WordPress software at another host. The password for that site has no connection to your WordPress.com account, but is stored in your site’s database on your hosting provider’s servers.

So the error you’re seeing on WordPress.com is correct – there is no account on WordPress.com connected to that email, as that account is unique to the specific site.

You can see the password reset instructions for your version of WordPress at https://wordpress.org/support/article/resetting-your-password/

For more help with this, please post in https://wordpress.org/support/forums or contact your hosting provider instead.

Once you have access to the dashboard for that site again, if you want to be able to manage it via your WordPress.com account you can. We make a plugin for WordPress called Jetpack, that connects a site at another hosting provider to a WordPress.com account. The site will still have its own unique login credentials for the admin account, but you can configure Jetpack so it allows you to log into WP-Admin on the site via your WordPress.com account instead, meaning you only have to keep track of one login.
