Log in issues

    Hi there! 👋🏼

It happens on any device. Laptop, mobile, iPad, iPhone, android. EVERYTHING! Have to login at least twice, sometimes more.

That sounds like some cookies or browser caching issues.

I gave it a try, and opened your post https://finsmobunleashed.com/2023/09/22/2023-season-game-3-broncos-dolphins.

Given that I’m logged in to my WordPress.com account, I immediately saw my Gravatar icon, confirming that I didn’t have to log in to comment:

I suggest referring to this guide to address the browser issues you may be experiencing:

For optimal viewing and security we recommend that you use an up-to-date version of any of the following browsers: Google Chro

    I hope this helps! 🤞🏻

To clarify a few things. It’s not just me, it’s happening to everyone who posts on the site, so I’m not thinking clearing cookies is going to help. I too can be logged in, can see my avi, and I still get that window popping up about notifications. It’s a PITA! Further m, in the past. we could stay logged in. No more. Any time you close the site, be prepared to go through the login login login routine again.

Something changed. A setting, an update? I have no idea what, I’d just like some technical support to help us revert back to how it was.

Also, as far as that goes, the avi showing in the comment/reply box, that was never there until this issue started.

Hi @herdfan, here’s what I’m seeing currently from my iPhone:

    • I have to click in the box to reply
    • I have to tap the W to log in with WordPress, even though I am already logged in with my phone browser. The page reloads (comment gone if I typed one.)
    • The other day, there was a loop where logging got ignored, and while that’s been fixed, I was surprised to see I’m still required to tap log in.
    • I can then leave a comment.
    • From there, if I go to another post or try to comment on something else, I can just comment.

Is that what you’re currently seeing?

Yes. But whatever you’re saying is fixed, isn’t fixed on our blog. Can’t comment on what happens with other sites, this is the only one most of us use.
Also, never had to log in EVERY time you go to the site. Either keep it open all the time or go through the login. Sometimes it logs you in with 2 logins, sometimes you get to do it 3 or more. It’s a football fan blog. Timing could not be worse.

@herdfan I tested using your site. I had to log in once (using a test account), but after that it stayed logged in, if that makes sense. I was able to add another comment just now (you can delete both) without logging in again.

There was an issue the other day where you could not log in at all; I confirmed it on your site and then confirmed there’s no more “login loop” going on.

Did you read this entire thread? Do you see all the notification options covering the text box when you are beginning to type a comment? Have to click the w to log in there. Then have to click the x to make the notification options go away. Why? What changed?

@herdfan I tried to replicate the issue you are referring to on your site but did not see any obstruction of the text box. Before signing in, I saw the following prompt to sign in with either WordPress or Facebook. I was not required to sign in to continue writing my comment, and I was not obstructed:

After signing in, I did see the notification settings menu that you refer to. However, this extended below my comment and similarly did not obstruct the ability to write a comment:

Do you have a screenshot of either of these dialog boxes obstructing the ability to write a comment so we can better understand the issue you are referring to?

The notification settings are a new feature for visitors, so they have more control over the emails they receive. This way, they are not encouraged to completely unsubscribe when all they want is fewer emails in response to your site content.

We do not want the new notification feature. It’s annoying. You have to do it every time you log in. We don’t even like having to log in every time. I already have notification settings elsewhere in WordPress. Why this? It wasn’t broken, why fix it? This is an epic fail. What can we do to revert back to how it was?

I’m sorry to see you’re still having trouble with this. The new comment form looks like it’s being rolled out to everyone.

You earlier said “We do require users to be approved first, hold the first comment in moderation and once approved, they are good to go.” That sounds like the Discussion setting at “Before A Comment Appears”. https://wordpress.com/support/discussion-settings/#before-a-comment-appears

I was referring to a different Discussion setting under “Comments”, “Users must be registered and logged in to comment” https://wordpress.com/support/discussion-settings/#comments-settings It wasn’t clear from your reply to me (about it always being that way) if this setting is enabled or not. If it is enabled, try disabling it. First time commenters will still have to have their comment approved before it appears on your site.

Regardless, if your site visitors log out of WordPress.com or clear their browser cache and cookies between visits (I know that FF has a setting to do exactly that if you choose “quit” or “exit”, I don’t know about Safari) they will have to log in again and should be able to do so by clicking that W icon in the comment form to log into their WordPress.com account prior to commenting. But hoping they won’t need to log in multiple times.

@herdfan It is not possible to revert this change, but I will pass along your feedback to the product team.

Sorry to tell you, according to what they tell me, it’s an upgrade. Lol. EPIC FAIL.

Why would anyone want to sign in over and over, have to select notification settings every single time? Absolutely horrible. We don’t want to be notified. Our users check our blog and comments multiple times a day. They don’t need to be notified. A running conversation. It really has created a problem. Maybe we should go to Reddit. 😂

Hi Herd, hope you’re well. It’s a dreadful upgrade, or rather, a downgrade. It’s just so unfriendly for our users. See you on Reddit 😅
