When I log in, I get into a blank account with a random username that is not connected to my site. When I try to access my dashboard, I get an error message saying

‘You are logged in as ‘sublime4703c7b6b2’ and do not have the necessary privileges to access the dashboard for ‘[xxx]’. If you are not ‘sublime4703c7b6b2’, please log out, and log back in with your username. If you are ‘sublime4703c7b6b2′ and you need access, please ask an administrator of the site to invite you.’

I have tried to log out and log back in, and it still takes me to this random account.

I have tried to recover my account, I have successfully changed my password, yet when I log in, it still takes me to this random account that is not linked to my site.

I have tried clearing my cache and cookies, and nothing helps.

I am stuck in this eternal loop and can’t find any support anywhere on how to resolve it.

You created the account sublime4703c7b6b2 only a few hours ago yourself. Delete current account and log in to your other account owning that site. As you have a paid plan, you must simply use the Transaction ID to restore access to the account owning that site – https://wordpress.com/support/account-recovery/#verify-your-account-ownership

Thanks staartmees. I did already tried recovering the account with a transaction ID, and it still took me to the sublime4703c7b6b2 account. What I don’t understand is how it is possible that I have created this sublime4703c7b6b2 with the same email address that I created the original account with – I thought it was impossible to create another account using the same email as an existing account, but if I understand you correctly, this is actually a possibility? And my main concern is, because there seems to be a crossed wire between two accounts using the same email, will deleting the sublime4703c7b6b2 account also delete my original account?

Make sure you are completely logged out of this new account and then log in with a different username. You can’t have two accounts with the same email address here. Is your original username rocandclay. Are you sure you didn’t associate a different email address to that account when you created it?

Yes, the site was set up using the email address associated with the rocandclay username. Yet no matter what happens when I try to log out of this sublime4703c7b6b2 account, and log in with rocandclay, it takes me back to sublime4703c7b6b2. I’ve tried resetting the password and recovering the account from the paypal transaction reference – all the reset links etc. go to the correct rocandclay email, but all roads lead back to “Howdy, sublime4703c7b6b2”. It’s stuck in an endless loop.
