Log out
-
You are preventing me from fully logging out and allow me, and presumable anyone else, to get back in without the two-step authentication I adopted. What’s the point of two-step authentication if WordPress regularly ignores it?

Hi there,
To clarify, are you saying that when you log out and log back in, you are able to access your account without using two-step authentication? Is it just only asking for the password and then you’re able to get access? I see that it has been activated correctly for a few years for you. Was it working properly for you before?
Let us know. Thanks!

Thank you. Yes. It was working fine for years but now I am able to get back in without the two-step process. WordPress seems to treat me as if I never logged out. I think they don’t want people to log out so it’s easy to keep blogging. But I consider logging out and then going through the two-step log-in process as a matter of security.

Hi @sgottlieb – I don’t believe that’s an intended result. Would you be up briefly disabling and then re-enabling the two-step login? If so, head over to these instructions: https://wordpress.com/support/security/two-step-authentication/
I recommend taking your time to review all methods we make available. Once you decide on the method you prefer, carefully follow the instructions on that page to disable your existing two-step and then re-enable.
If you have any questions along the way, let us know and we’ll be happy to help.

Thank you for your suggestion but I think that you have reversed my problem which is that it has become difficult to find where to log out. If I could find that, I have no problem logging back in. But all the places I used to go to log out don’t give me that feature. And it seems to me that the location of items like that on the website keep changing. If I could find the log out button consistently, two-step authorization works just fine the next time I want to log in. But if I can’t find how to log out, then WordPress is keeping me logged in and the two-step process is irrelevant. I hope that makes my problem clearer and I appreciate your efforts to help me get the process straight.

Hi there,
The location of the log-out button hasn’t changed in the last few years. You can find it in your account’s settings at https://wordpress.com/me
Every time you log out that way, you’ll be asked to enter a two-step verification code the next time you log in.
