Log Out doesn't work

  • Unknown's avatar

I just created a new Gravatar account for a client. When I choose Log Out from the user menu, I end up at this URL:

    https://en.gravatar.com/?logout=1

But if I then click the Sign In button, I am automatically logged back in. I am not asked for user credentials. This is happening in multiple browsers.

How would I go about switching accounts? And isn’t this a privacy concern? I never checked a “Remember me on this computer” checkbox etc.

  • Hi there,

Gravatar logs you in using your WordPress.com account to which you’re currently logged in. If you want to log into a completely different Gravatar account you need to log out of both Gravatar.com and WordPress.com, and then log into a different WordPress.com account before logging back into Gravatar.

This is not a browser setting. This is controlled by cookies that are placed in your browser when you log into WordPress.com. To prevent this you need to delete WordPress.com cookies at the end of every browser session.

Ok thanks for the clarification. It does seem like an unintuitive userflow, though.

  • It is a bit unintuitive, isn’t it? But the system isn’t really designed for people who access the site via multiple accounts, which might explain that to some degree.

What you could do if you need to create an account for a client is to use a private/incognito browser session. That way cookies are deleted automatically when you close the browser.
