logging in with 2 step authenticator

  • Unknown's avatar

I used to use the two step authenticator to login and then I switched phones. The authenticator no longer works. I enter the correct username and password, but then it says the code is invalid. I do not have back up codes.

My husband originally created this blog, but he died a little over a year ago. I’ve been maintaining his blog for the last year and usually use my own username, and email to post. But I am currently logged in under his email and password. Two step authentication was not enabled on that account.

I cannot get into the account created with my email address.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I have a problem. I activated the 2 step verification for my wp account. I found it irritating so i uninstalled my authenticator in my phone. When I was trying to disable it now. Wp is asking me for my current verification code, I kept on entering the most recent code that was sent to me via sms but it kept on being recognized as invalid. My thinking is that it was as king for the real time code that is supposed to be in my authenticator app so I re installed it realizing that the app now doesn’t have the settings I had entered before. I didn’t have the bar code anymore for the app WP account. I want to get rid of this verification already. Pls help!!!!

I don’t show Two Step Authentication as being active on your account, though I do see that you attempted to change your email address recently.

Looks like that email change has not gone through (you would get an email at the new address that you need to confirm) but if you have access to original email address, you can reset your password here:

    https://wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword

Be sure to check your spam folder, and let me know if you have any trouble regaining access to your account.

In digging a little deeper, I see that you have more than one account at WordPress.com. This one looks to have been your husband’s account, which you have renamed to amiatkins1. It does not have Two Step Authentication enabled.

However, you have another account, which looks to be your personal account. Two Step Authentication is enabled on this account. I have sent you a private message regarding your inquiry, and it will arrive at the email address you signed up under.

Please check your inbox and if you don’t see it, also be sure to look in your spam folder.

The code you get is one-use only, so you can’t use it a second time in this instance.

To disable Two Step authentication, use a new SMS code to go here: https://wordpress.com/?ssl=forced#!/settings/security/

Once on the Security Settings page, click on the “Generate Backup Codes” button and print a backup copy of your codes.

Next click on the “Disable” button under Two Step Authentication status.

At the prompt, enter a code from your list of backup codes and click “Disable” button.

You should see now that Two Step Authorization is disabled on your user account.

Let me know if you need assistance or if you have any questions.
