Logging on as invited author

I already have a WordPress username and password and maintain my own WordPress blog. A friend has asked me to join her as an invited author on her blog, and sent me an invitation. When I click on this invitation I am invited to enter my email and password. However…
1. If I enter my usual password I get a message saying, “Sorry, this activation key has already been used. If you don’t have access to this site, please ask the blog owner to send another.”
2. If I enter a different password I get a message asking me if I have forgotten my password.
I’m not sure what is going wrong here, or even what, exactly, I am being asked to do.
Question. 1 – Can I log onto my friend’s blog using my existing WordPress username?
Question. 2 – If the answer to question 1 is No, can I have two usernames at the same email address?
Question. 3 – If the answer to question 1 is Yes, why does neither the same nor a different password log me on?

I got the friend to re-send her invitation and it worked this time. I have no idea why it didn’t work the first time but we are sorted now and you can please close this query.
