  I am using Siteground and can log into that easily.

  I am unable to login into WordPress directly on their site.

  Does this mean I need to create an account with WordPress? (thought I had but does not recognize the only email I have used)

  Hi there,

  You’re using the open source WordPress.org software over at Siteground. That’s not the same thing as WordPress.com, and you don’t need a WordPress.com account to access your site. (You can access it using a WordPress.com if you want, but to do that you’d first need to log into the site itself, then install the Jetpack plugin and use that to connect your site to us.)

  The account you need to log into to access the dashboard is the admin user account for that specific site. Depending on how you installed WordPress at Siteground, you either set up that account manually during the installation process, or Siteground would have emailed you the login details after the installation was completed.

  If you don’t have those credentials, Siteground support might be able to help you reset them. Otherwise, you can find the documentation for your version of WordPress here:
