Login and password required for my blog

  I want to set my blog up so that people have to login and enter a email address. I would like to collect their email address so that I can send them email updates about my site. Is this possible with WordPress? If so how do I achieve it?

  Well, you’d have to make your site Private and send these people Invitations. In order to send Invitations, you’d have to already know their email. So that’s not going to work.

  There is no way I know of to collect the email addresses of all people who visit your site, in order to send them an email. It’s illegal in my country. What you can do is put a Subscribe Via Email widget in your sidebar and/or use a Contact form and tell people they can sign up to receive emails about your site that way.
