Login HELP – No access to old phone, no Authenticator

    Hi,

I had to create a temp account just to login and present my issue.

I changed countries and don’t have access to my old number. I also don’t have an Authenticator app. In fact, I remember I used to be able to authenticate using my WordPress iOS app, but now it doesn’t work anymore and I’m being made to enter codes that I don’t have.

I’ve reset the password using my email [(email visible only to moderators and staff)] and I now have a new password, but it’s still asking for these codes.

I really need access to my account again as I have so much stuff in there. I’ll be happy to provide any information you might need as verification.

I also have a self-hosted WordPress site that’s set up with JetPack linked to this account. Is there a way I can use that as verification?

    Please help.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Caveat:

For some reason, it’s showing the ‘temp’ blog I used just to get access to the forum. The blogs I need help with are irisetsafolie and comebackandhauntme (wordpress.com). The self-hosted blog with the linked Jetpack is iriswrites.com.

I’ve also been through the account recovery system and I have none of the stuff required there. I don’t have my activation email anymore because this account is about 3/4 years old.

As this is considered a security issue, we can only accept the proofs of ownership listed at https://en.support.wordpress.com/account-recovery/#account-recovery-form

I recommend following through that form, and they’ll be able to help you with this.

    Hi,

I don’t have any of those for the following reasons:

    – I never bought anything from WP. I only have a free plan, also with Jetpack.

    – With the backup codes, I remember I used the WP iOS app for authentication. That’s where I got codes and stuff. I remember that if I login to using another browser or computer, it would prompt me to open the WP iOS app. I never set up Authenticator separately so I really don’t have those backup codes. I did get an email sometime in April about security issues with the app, but I didn’t get around to dealing with it because I was in the middle of immigration drama.

    – I can’t find my account activation link, which I know would’ve been my biggest chance. I have an email on my domain and I had switched it to the Google platform sometime in the past few years, so I’ve lost email from that period.

I understand this is a security issue, but I also do not think there are no other options to this matter. I was able to reset my password just fine using the email. The email is very much alive and well. I’m also still logged in to Jetpack using the account in question in my self-hosted WP site.

I refuse to believe that there are no other options. Do you propose that I just simply write off several years’ of WP activity when I am perfectly able to verify whatever information, activity, etc. that would verify ownership? That’s just crazy.

Ah ok, if it’s just the code that is something we may be able to help with.

I have sent an email to the email address on the account with instructions.

When you’re back in, don’t forget to re-do the two-step authentication at https://wordpress.com/me/security/two-step so you can print out the backup codes this time. :)

Worked a treat! Oh, thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! I will definitely re-do the authentication and make sure I keep everything updated moving forward. I really appreciate your help!
