Login history, menu revisions

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi folks,

If someone believes their WordPress website has being accessed by someone other than themselves using their own password:
    a) is there a way to see the login history of an administrator?
    b) is there a way of seeing when a menu was last changed? i.e. anything similar to the revisions history on the blogs.

Obviously I have advised this person to change their password, which they have done. However they are concerned the menus on their website have been changed.

    Thanks.

  • Hi there,

Is this for a WordPress site or a WordPress.com site? The two are not the same.

On WordPress.com we don’t keep a log of every action on a site, but we do keep logs of destructive actions like deleting posts, media and comments, and some account actions like password changes, etc. We also log the IP address from which the action was performed.

Actions that only affect the appearance of a site, like making changes to a custom menu, are not logged, and we also don’t keep a revision history for menus.

If it’s a self-hosted WordPress website, we don’t keep any logs at all as self-hosted sites are not on our servers, so we don’t have any access to them. To find out what logs are automatically kept on self-hosted sites, I suggest you ask in the WordPress.org forums for where you can find that information, but unless you have a security plugin installed I don’t think it will be a lot of information.
