login not recognized

  I’m trying to login to my site… extremeplants.org/wp-admin/. I get the standard wp login screen with my saved info filled in. Clicking ‘log in’ results in the shakes and an Invalid username error message. The lost-your-password link refuses to acknowledge me, despite the fact that I can log in to wp directly (hence being able to send this message). So… I can’t log in, and I can’t reset my pw, so I can’t edit my site. Note: this is a new problem, last night, and I have been working on the site a lot for the last several weeks. I don’t seem to be able to find a non-forum way to ask this, which seems like it would be more appropriate.

  Aloha heritiera, It looks like you are working with a self-hosted WordPress.org site instead of the WordPress.com-hosted version supported here.

  Learn more about the differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org:

  I would recommend searching on the WordPress.org support forums for similar issues. If you cannot find anything that works, you can start your own thread. The forums are completely separate from each other, so you will need to register an account there if you haven’t done so already.

  Hi there,

  You might need to log in via your hosting provider’s control panel to change the password in the site’s database, if the regular password reset doesn’t work. You can find the self-hosted WordPress instructions for this here:

  If you need help with this, please post in the self-hosted forums as @geoffreyshilling suggested above, or contact your hosting provider’s support directly. But we don’t have any access to your site so we’re not able to help with it in the WordPress.com forums.

  Resolved – restored the entire site and the signon details were restored as well. Somehow the db had been compromised and the signon was the least of the problems. Thanks for the help.
