Login problems with 2 blogs

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello
I have 2 blogs. When I’m logged out of ‘blog a’ (class blog) and logged into my personal blog, I can’t leave comments (in a normal way) on my own blog. WordPress prompts me to log in to the class blog and I get a message saying ‘you try to leave comments with ….. details, log on as … and try again’… something along this line.
I can only reply to comments on my own blog if I’m in the admin side and reply from my dashboard. It shouldn’t be like this.
Please help! I’ve tried a lot of things to solve this and it’s an ongoing problem over a few months now. – I cleared history and deleted cache. I logged out and back in. Nothing helps.
    Thank you

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hello!

So, I’m not sure exactly what the issue is, but I think I have an idea.

First of all, when you say “logged in”, do you mean that you are using two separate WordPress logins for each blog? Both blogs are not on one login? Or are you switching between blogs on the same username?

    Yes, that’s right.

Sorry, I am now logged in to a 3rd! The Reading blog – I forgot about this one too. Will log out and log back into my own blog. :)

The issue is between the class blog – and my private blog – I have different usernames and emails for the 2 blogs. I am mostly logged on and create entries on the class blog during term time, but do log on quite often to my own blog too, but not always creating new entries during term time.

Ok, that explains it, you’re physically logging in and out of your different blogs and usernames.

I think the issue might be your browser remembering your most previous login and when you try to comment from the the new one, if will defer to that first one. Mine does the same thing with my email, I can’t switch between different email addresses on the same website without it getting confused sometimes.

I find the best workaround for me is opening a new incognito mode browser (depending on which browser you use), and opening the additional blog from from there. This way, the computer doesn’t remember the 2nd (or 3rd for you) log-in info or realize that its logged in, so you can comment from either blog to the other without it confusing the logins. I can’t guarantee this will work, as I don’t have any experience with this exact issue, but give it a try and see how it goes.

I hope this answers your question!

Thank you, I will try it. Thanks for the support. This is what I thought was the problem, that’s why I cleared cache and history and tried many other things too. :)

No problem! Let me know if that works or not, I’m interested to see if there are any other issues at play.

    Hi chessaleeinlondon,

I just wanted to add to something @theblakesheep mentioned.

I think the issue might be your browser remembering your most previous login and when you try to comment from the the new one

I think this is likely to be the problem too — many login issues are due to browser cache. Browsers don’t always handle logging in and out of multiple accounts that well :)

Please try following these steps if you have problems logging in again:

    1. Log out of your account on the My Profile page
    2. Clear your browser cache using these steps
    3. Clear your WordPress.com cookies using these steps
    4. Refresh the page and try to log in again

You can then double check which account you are logged in to by visiting your My Profile page again.

@theblakesheep’s suggestion of opening an Incognito or private window in your browser is also a good solution.

Would you like to manage both blogs from one account or are you happy to keep them separate?
