Login push notifications

  I’ve got 2FA enabled, and it’s worked fine for years. I log in on a laptop, and get the push notification via the WP app on my mobile device…tap ‘Approve’, and I’m in. However, in recent weeks, when I tap ‘Approve’ on the app, nothing happens in my laptop browser. Even after a while, the app approval does not seem to be going through to WordPress to let me in on my laptop. I’ve tried this with 2 different mobile devices and it’s the same issue. I have to get a text code sent to my phone to get it. Please assist.

  Hi there,

  Please try restarting the mobile device. This could be a problem with something stuck in the device’s connection cache, which prevents the network request from going through when you tap the Approve button in the notification.

  If that doesn’t help, please let us know your device make and model, the Android/iOS version you’re on, as well as the version number of the WordPress app you have installed.

  Hi

  I’ve restarted, and also manually cleared the app cache – no difference.

  It’s a Pixel 3a on Android 10, with the latest security update installed. The WP app is version 14.6.1.

  Hi there,

  Please try the following steps:

  1. Disconnect the app from your WordPress.com account by going to https://wordpress.com/me/security/connected-applications

  2. Uninstall the app from your phone.

  3. Reinstall the app and log in again to your WordPress.com account.

  Would you confirm whether the same thing happens in another browser? If it’s not the app it could be that, and clearing its cache (or maybe even its cookies if needed) may help.

  Trying another browser first will be a good indicator.

  I’ve tried again on a new browser – which I’ve never used for WordPress before. Same issue :(

  I’ve been digging into this a little and it seems that there have been more reports about this.

  Please set up an authenticator app and try entering the code instead, while our mobile team will keep looking into why these aren’t working. Thanks!
