Login Redirect Not Working
-
Hi, folks…
I’ve had WordPress.com provided blogs active for many years. This is the very first time ever that I’ve had an issue that I couldn’t resolve on my own. WordPress.com has been VERY stable for me, usually. Here’s what’s happening…
On my blogs (any of them), when I click the login link, the page starts to redirect, but I end up with a black white redirect page wit this link: https://wordpress.com/log-in?redirect_to=https%3A%2F%2Fnoctslackv2.wordpress.com%2Fwp-admin%2F.
I’m using Firefox browser. I’ve tried to dump all cookies/cache, run in safe mode (no addons), etc. Nothing makes a difference. I can access/login fine with Chromium browser, which is how I managed to login and post this here, actually.
This is a new issue. My browser is set to keep me logged in across sessions. I noticed just this morning that I had been logged out of my WordPress.com accounts, though.
Anyway, any ideas? Thoughts? Even though I can get into my blogs via Chromium, Firefox is my default browser, so I’d really like to get this working in FF again.
Thanks,
~Eric

Well, I wish is was that simple, @macman. Unfortunately, it seems it’s some sort of scripting issue in Firefox*. Even running it in Safe Mode with no addons enabled and ALL cookies being excepted, it still won’t load that login page.
However, testing in three other browser, all of which are blocking cookies and have the same addons as Firefox:
– Chromium (OpenSource version of Chrome)
– Seamonkey (older Mozilla browser)
– TOR Browser (secured , heavily locked down and blocking cookies and scripts)… these three
- ALL
load the login page with no issues at all.
I’ll tinker around a bit more with FF over the next few days. If I find the solution, I’ll post it here for others who may run across this problem.
Thanks,
~Eric
*Firefox v68.12.0esr (64-bit) running in Slackware Linux, by the way.

Hm, that is odd, I use Firefox myself and haven’t run into this issue.
With that said though, Firefox 68 is too old for us to support. Are you able to upgrade?
We can only officially support the current version of a browser and one version back. So, for Firefox, that’s 90 and 89.

Actually, I can upgrade FF. For my stable distribution, though, this is the version that is considered up-to-date. That’s why it’s an ESR (extended release version).
I had been running 89 for a while a few weeks back. It was fine, but there were some interface changes that I didn’t like, so I reverted to the FF 68.
Rather than deal with the things I didn’t like in 89, I think I’ll just access my WordPress.com sites using Chromium from now on… or at least until I decide to upgrade to newest FF again. ;)
Thanks, @macman! I guess we can mark this thread as RESOLVED, if you’d like.
Have a good one! Stay safe and healthy! :)

I’ve been tagging the wrong you… darn. ;)
staff-blorbo … there that should work better. ;)
Marking thread resolved now.

It looks like the latest ESR from Firefox is 78.12.0esr: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/#product-desktop-esr
I’m not sure if things will work out, that’s still technically older than we can support, but it might be better.

Hello again, staff-blorbo…
Just wanted to let you know that after installing FF 90.0.2, all is well. I can login fine now.
Have a great weekend!
