Logo Image Resizing

  I’m just getting started, trying to use wordpress but so far I’m very frustrated and can’t even get my logo image to show correctly. The edges are cut off. I tried re-sizing the image smaller before uploading it but it just made things worse and even more cut off. Now I can’t even find where it says what size I should be using for the featured image at the top of a post. I have 954 x 1300px written down next to me so I assume I read that somewhere. I’ve watched a few hours of tutorials but if I can’t even put the first pic into the top of my first post I don’t think I will have much hope of using WordPress at all to build an actual website. Is there somewhere I can go with step by step instructions to explain what I must do? Do I need to adjust the whole template to suit my logo size or do I need to adjust my logo to suit the template. Totally lost and frustrated, about to give up on WordPress all together if I can’t even get this right. I’m just wasting time here.
