LOL I Don’t Think So

This is a disrespectful money grab gimmick thrown at your customers here on new blog creations

So we can’t choose a color, or gradient background that comes preinstalled on one of your basic templates without spending a fortune for that privelidge? Who is buying into this gimmick?
This just prevented me from purchasing a new domain here on the Personal plan.
For those like myself who enjoys this platform, and happens to be one of those people trying to find their places in the blogging world, who often finds themselves buying domains here, and starting new blogs to try, this is not going to work. No sale today.

And to add insult to injury, all these new block themes look nothing like a blog at all. Someone is just creating splash pages with a query loop block and calling it a blog template. So if you want a new blog that works properly with the new block system,, and looks like a blog, you have to design it yourself, which is best done I have found with the Blank Canvas template. But now you can’t fully design your template because of the greed I pointed out above. Surely WordPress can find better ways to increase it’s profits.

Hey there, I appreciate the feedback and will pass it along. To be clear, we do want to encourage users to pay us. We aim to be around a long time, for free and paid sites alike, and paid plans make that possible.
You should still be able to save any template changes, though. Just not custom styles. It’s similar to what we had before with custom colors and CSS and whatnot being under Premium. And, thanks to community feedback + work from our themes team, many of the newer themes are more blogger friendly. I’d recommend checking them out.
