Looking for a data capture plug-in

  I’m looking for a wordpress plugin which can

  1) Act as a popup without prompt i.e. appears automatically when a reader reaches the blog; and
  2) capture data

  Plugins cannot be used at wordpress.COM for security reasons. Plugins are for self-hosted wordpress sites using the software from wordpress.ORG.

  The difference between wordpress.com and wordpress.org (self-hosted) sites.

  And now to share this: People really don’t like those popups. I’ve been known to be confronted with one and immediately hit the back button and go elsewhere. My suggestion would be a contact form in a widget in the sidebar. That is passive rather than aggressive and not getting in people’s faces.

  Some great blogs use this kind of popup successfully, e. g. http://www.socialmediaexaminer.com/ – the popup will not appear immediately but after you’ve read for a while and experienced how great the content is. 155.000 readers have subscribed… I’d love to install such a popup and connect it to Constant Contact or Mail Chimp.

  It is incredibly obnoxious. That popups get results is not the question: beggars also get results. But you wouldn’t put one in front of your store, would you?

  It’s desperate-looking, low-rent spamming. A sidebar box is an offer. A pop-up is an avaricious intrusion.
