I am looking for a grid-style wordpress theme similar to the blogs linked below:

– Search
– Grid-style elements with headlines only
– Popular articles on the right
– Cover articleI am especially interested in the concentrated grid-style display of the articles because it allows you to place a lot of content on a single page.
Do you know any wordpress themes that are similar to these blogs and offer the same set of features or at least close to it?

I’m not aware of any free WordPress.com themes which have all of the features in either of your two examples.
* Categories — A Categories widget is available on every WordPress theme.
* Search — A Search widget is available on every WordPress theme.
* Grid-style elements with headlines only — Look at the Portfolio themes suggested on the WordPress.com Portfolios support page. But note also that Portfolios can be enabled on any available WordPress theme (themes available for use on WordPress.com websites). The following is a link list to WP themes designed specifically for Portfolio content, and others featuring grid-style display of the posts on the front page.
* Popular articles on the right — A top posts or pages widget is available on all themes, but placing the widget next to featured post as is done on the Betterment website might be a little tricky.
* Cover article — For this feature you might want to look at themes with post sliders.
