Looking for customization/theme suggestion

Hi there… looking for a few suggestions. My organization requires us to be password protected, which is no problem. I understand how to do that. But when I made a trial static page for that, it pops up the window for them to enter the password but it also shows the widgets and menus. Is there a way to turn those off? I don’t want non-approved people seeing our menus and such. I guess I need a static page with no menus showing, just like our logo or banner present. Is that possible to do?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi, on a free site I don’t know that you could hide the menus on a page (that would take CSS), but you could certainly hide any widgets. You can do that through Customize > Widgets > (choose a widget) > Visibility. I hope that helps! You can also use widgets to add menus, if that’s helpful too, so you could have a public menu and then put your private menu in a widget area.

Can you change the widgets per page? Like if I did a public menu and then a private one? Or when you customize, does it affect the whole site?

In that case, I think I might want to upgrade to do the CSS instead. Is that hard to do with CSS (to hide the menu)?

  • @quassaickdar sure. You can use “visibility” on a widget and set to show or hide the widget accordingly.

So let’s say you have a public facing front page on the site, and you don’t want to show any secret widgets there.

You can edit all of the secret widgets, click visibility, and “hide if” “page” and “front page”. That would do the trick.

If you wanted certain widgets to ONLY show on the front page, you would use “show if” “page” and “front page”. Make sense?
