Looking for eCommerce Theme Recommendations for a DVD/Book Seller

  • Unknown's avatar

I sell rare DVDs and have been making a good profit on conventional online marketplaces (like eBay). I would like to open up my own website, but have never had an eCommerce website before. I was looking for recommendations for an easy to use eCommerce website that I can’t mess up too badly.

It doesn’t have to be very flashy as at least at first I just want to focus on the functionality. Pretty much all I need is a place to list each item with a photo (the same size for each item), a short description, and very importantly a buy button. Also, it would be nice to allow users to have a cart rather than just make individual purchases and also to categorize things by genre (horror, comedy, etc.) and/or DVD type (DVD, Blu-ray, etc.)

I know all these things are possible, but would like a recommendation for the easiest one to use that I can’t mess up too badly. Thank you in advance for any help.

    Hi there,
To start an e-commerce site you will need a WordPress website with WooCommerce plugin installed in your site. This will enable you to easily list products that you sell on your site.

WordPress software comes in two flavours WordPress.com & WordPress.org.
The former is paid version while the latter is Open Source.
I would recommend you to read the following support article to gather more information on this:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

Apparently, if you opt for WordPress.com you will need to have a WordPress.com Business plan subscription to be able to install WooCommerce plugin, however, there is no such requirement if you opt for Open Source WordPress software.

    Hello Sunil,

Im also in this same category and a complete newbie with wordpress & Woocomerce.

The theme id like to use is https://webplantmedia.com/product/brimstone-wordpress-theme/

But im really battling to customise it easily. Do i need to use Jetpack in order to get my site looking like the example page. Im not sure if its lack of customising options or me just being really stupid. If i could get my site to look like examples page with my pictures in id be very happy.

(iv setup a landing page so far but using OceanWP theme and Elementor, which made abit more sense but its not the style that im looking for so will want to start all over again.

Also, im confused on themes & templates. Do i need to add any further templates / themes into the Brimstone theme to allow for woocomerce? (I have added the woocomerce plugin.

    thank you!!

    Hi,
The best way for you to go about it is by following the steps on the theme docs:
    https://webplantmedia.com/docs/

Just curious if you have purchased a WordPress.com plan or if you are using self-hosted WordPress.

You should include the links to your site so that you can get better help.

    Best
