Looking for feedback on my Chrome extension to detect themes and plugins
-
Hi, everyone!
Recently I was looking for an extension to detect themes, and the ones I’ve found were quite outdated, so I decided to make my own.
Long story short: it hasn’t had much success, but I was looking for some feedback of actual human beings, so I can know what I should improve or what is not really making sense in the exension.
Anyways, here’s the link: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/theme-wise-identify-front/ehfnfeikdcfkbjfhfoeahafbigichaio.
So far it detects themes and child themes, plugins (e.g. Yoast SEO, Akismet, Elementor…), and it identifies around 300 themes from Elegant Themes, ThemeForest and WordPress.org.
And of course, thanks to anyone willing to give it a try!

Hey dragoonarts. Thanks, and I hope you like it.
Needless to say, any feedback (positive or negative) is greatly appreciated, specially at this early stage!
-
So far it has only recognized the theme from one of the ten sites I looked at.
It gives these errors under theme.Themes
Not enough datapub
unidentified or custom theme. The one it did get right was my favorite Generate Press.
It did seem to get the color schemes and type right. Its going to be a great tool.
It will save me lots of time searching to find the theme on sites I find interesting. If it will help I will use the send feedback link you have built into it.

Hey dragoonarts!
Thank you very much for the detailed feedback! Really appreciated.
And you’re correct. So far it only identifies the 300 most popular themes. I figured that was enough to test if people liked it or not.
My plan is, if I see that more people use it, adding a lot more – From StudioPress, The Theme Foundry, aThemes, etc. Now, if it doesn’t identify the theme or if it’s custom, it should at least say the name and link to a Google search
<theme name> theme.May I ask what is that
pubtheme? Is it posible that it was custom? -
Themes
pub
(Unidentified or custom theme)This is from a site on WordPress.com running the Twenty Eleven theme.
-
I think I’ve found the problem:
In the WordPress preview, they are using a theme named
pub, and the actual preview is inside an iframe:
https://wordpress.org/themes/twentyeleven/Instead, if you go to the URL of the frame:
https://wp-themes.com/twentyeleven/
It detects the themeTwenty Elevenproperly.I think the easiest fix is to analyze the content of the iframes too.
I will work on it soon. Thanks for helping out with this bug!
