Looking for something similar to Afterlight
-
I’m wondering if there’s a free theme similar to Afterlight, but with two columns. I love Afterlight, but I don’t like all of the widgets pushed up into the top right corner of the screen. I’d like a two column theme, but with the ability to use my photograph as the background. I tried using the search, ticking off the boxes of what I want, but it’s so confusing. :( Maybe it’s just my stupidity.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Then choose and older theme because that’s the trend we are experiencing on new themes IE. menus and sidebars hidden behind links, slideout menus and slideout sidebars on themes are the new black.

You can get a full-screen background in any theme that supports a background image with some custom CSS.
Here’s some example CSS:
body { background: url(//YOURSITE.files.wordpress.com/2015/02/my-image-name.jpg) no-repeat center center fixed; -webkit-background-size: cover; -moz-background-size: cover; -o-background-size: cover; background-size: cover; }With CSS, you can also remove the background colour of the theme’s content columns for a transparent effect, like in Afterlight.
If you need more specific help once you choose a theme, do feel free to post again in the CSS Customization forum:

p.s. be sure to replace the background-image URL with your own – the above is just an example. :)

One thing I’d like to add: I ticked the box to ‘Notify me of followup posts via email’ and was not alerted to any replies until I came in search of my thread.

Thanks for letting me know you didn’t get any email notifications. Could you first check your spam folder to see if it might have gone in there?

My deepest and most embarrassing apologies, Kathryn. I was checking what I thought to be the email address I used to sign up with. Apparently that is inaccurate. I’ve long been checking the wrong email account. My humblest apologies.
