Looking for theme suggestions – study website with flashcards
-
I’m looking for theme suggestions for a website I am planning to start. It’s an education website that will have about 1000 flashcards with content I’ve created about a medical discipline. I’d like people to come to the website to study. They would be able to focus on flashcards/notecards by topics, and then review them. Are there any themes that might allow me to do this?

Hi Rose. Thanks for offering assistance.
Some of the flashcards will have pictures, but not all of them. -
I mean you call it flashcards – so it is like a rectangular image that you will put on your website? It probably with text, images or combination on it. But the flashcard itself is something you want to upload?

Hi Rose. There are approximately 1000 notecards, and they can be grouped into a total of 10 categories with approximately 100 notecards in each category. Each notecard has 4-5 sentences worth of content, and a minority will have images. I want users to be able to go into one of the 10 categories, and then see the 100 notecards which are subtopics within the categories, and then be able to read the 4-5 sentences of content.

Hi @bonedoctor1,
It sounds like a theme that displays images in a grid layout may work well for you. You can filter for themes in our repository that have a grid layout via the following link:
https://wordpress.com/themes/filter/grid-layout
Baskerville 2, Dyad 2, and Cubic are a few of my favourite free options. You’d be able to upload images for your flashcards as featured images.
It’s also possible to create category pages that display posts with a certain category in all of our themes.
Take a look through the above and let us know if you have extra questions.
Looking forward to seeing Rose’s sample, also!

Thanks, @siobhyb. :) I hope it’s still okay to send my suggestion.
Hi @bonedoctor1,
So this is what I was asking earlier, if you have your flashcards as an image to upload. Is it something like this – https://i.imgur.com/rq0V0pl.jpg an image that you will upload to your website.
You can check the sample I made on my test site – https://rosepajarojavolunteer.wordpress.com
I chose the theme Rebalance because it shows the posts in grid. Then since you mentioned that you will have around 10 categories, I think this theme will neatly show the menus at the top even it goes to the second or third line.
If you have the flashcards in images, ready to upload, it will look like this – https://rosepajarojavolunteer.wordpress.com/category/image-cards/ You can still add title and more texts as you post it.
If you don’t have the flashcards in images, just an article or notes to post, you can post them as normal blog posts and they will look like this – https://rosepajarojavolunteer.wordpress.com/category/text-cards/
At the top of this sample website, you will see 10 menus for each category as you described + Home.
These menu will filter your posts per category.
siobhyb sent you the links on how to create the categories. If you get stuck somewhere, feel free to let us know, we’ll further assist you.
Please check siobhyb’s recommendations, too for the theme. They will all work the same way.
Regards,

Definitely, all suggestions and input is welcome! It’s awesome how you went to the extra effort to create samples on your site. :)

You’re welcome, @bonedoctor1. :) I definitely recommend taking some time to have an experiment and look over all of the options. We’re right here to help out if any questions come up.
