Looking into DMHA
-
I’m looking at copyright protection and actions such as adding a DMHA badge to one’s blog. It’s a whole new idea for me. Can we do that here on WP dot Com? I tried a bit of code in Widgets but it doesn’t work. Maybe a Gigya Code?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Do you mean DMCA?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Millennium_Copyright_Act
Where is the code for this badge please? -
A badge is an image. Provided this badges is not advertising, an iframe, or Javascript you simply copy and paste the code provided from the source into a text widget and display the badge in your sidebar.

Ahh, thank you, sorry I did mean DM

A… as I say this is all very new for me. At dot Org there is a plugin that allows dot Org users to sport a badge… but yes, a copyright notice might be very helpful even if it is not absolute protection… thanks
Ha, no wonder when I did a search for dmHa, I kept coming up with that “I swear to tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth” thread which IMO is highly amusing….hehe

There is not now nor has there ever been FTP access and blogger installed plugin capability on free hosted WordPress.com blogs.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/ftp-access/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/plugins/You cannot post a badge for a plugin service that you do not use on your blog. That would be false advertising. Abandon this and simply post a copyright notice.

Okey Dokey… And the copyright notices are now displayed on both of my blogs :) Thank you for the tips…
-
That’s good news. best wishes for happy blogging. :)
This is timethief but I’m logged in under my other username account. -
Yeah, I recognized your pretty picture! ;)
I ran across this on RedBubble (where I hope I will soon be active) and it has me wondering:
-
I don’t use myfreecopyright. I created my own copyright (I’m a paralegal BTW) and you can the pages here:

Awesome! Could I do that? The only thing that worries me a little is that none of my photo works (and only about a dozen of my latest fractal images) have watermarks on them…but would that make any difference?
I read something about placing copyright info on each post too. That COULD conceivably be done, even though I have hundreds of posts all told…
-
I’ve been reading about Creative Commons too….but I am not sure I would want anyone else using my work unless all of the proper credits were given and they were just reblogging a post or something like that.

Yes, you can create your own copyright.
However, regarding images if you don’t want it to be stolen don’t post it because there is no measure you can take that will universally prevent all content theft. All you can do is attempt to deter some thieves bu posting a copyright notice. Also be aware that enforcing a copyright action in court is a lenghty and costly process.
If you use the Duotone theme right click is disabled. It’s not available on any other themes here and will not become available as it creates a false sense of security. Anyone can find instructions on the internet and get around it in less than 20 seconds flat. What’s best is watermarking your images or not placing any images and/or text you don’t want stolen on the internet at all. If you are referring to images this may help http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2007/10/19/watermark-your-blog-images/

Thanks @TT for the reminder – been on my list of things to do
One question however
A brief excerpt of content that does not exceed 128 words or 512 characters may be quoted
Is there a specific reason for the numbers, above in this thread you reference 55 words as the Reblog built in max –
My biggest referral is a a commercial site with ads so that part would need to be taken out – yes they ask ahead of time a few years ago and they use on picture and usually 50 words or so if my story is their featured story at the top of their page – with a link back to my site – nice traffic bump when they put a link back
thanks for the great info again
-
Cool, thanks, I think I will do that. Or at least a mini-version.
Familiar advice about images…we’re only trying to deter the crooks (and some even say “Don’t prevent theft, punish it!!” but that’s another story. I had work stolen elsewhere even though my other site had the download disabled. People can simply make a good screenshot of an image and they’ve got their grubby paws on it. And there are even directions posted online about how to remove watermarks… Well, if I do get to selling artwork, the copyright concerns will become more important than they are at the moment…

That was for @TT who says-
