Looking into upgrading to paid account but have questions.
-
Hello,
I currently have a free WP blog, but need to upgrade/ or move elsewhere. I am thinking about the Premium business upgrade as my blog is my business/ part of it.
I went .com a while back but got so overwhelmed with all that went with it that it killed my ability to share and ran back to my free and comfy WP account! At that time though I bought a domain through TSOHost, which is up for renewal. I would like to have my .com web address, but stick with WP, how do I go about this please?
I’m also concerned about the privacy option with the domain, at the moment anyone can see where I live, which I hadn’t realised and what with the content of my blog this is not a good idea at all.
I’m rather confused by all this technology lark if I’m honest, I’m a victim of my own success and never really planned for the blog to take off like it has, I need to try and catch up!
Thank youThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi alicejcollyer!
Both the Premium and Business plans are great options. Each of which will come with a credit to map your existing domain, which I explain below.
I would like to have my .com web address, but stick with WP
This is certainly possible. You will need to map your existing domain to your WP.com site. Here is a helpful guide on exactly how to do that:
Use a Domain You Already Own (Domain Mapping)
Since your custom domain is with TSOHost, you will want to contact them directly regarding your privacy question. You can refer to WHOIS Privacy when contacting them as this is their service that will hide your personal info.
Please let me know if you have any questions. I hope this helps!

Thank you very much Wynternet,
I should have been clearer about the domain, it’s through TSOhost, but it was hosted or something by someone else? I have no idea, so confused! Anyway, I don’t have access to the site anymore.
So I’m not sure where that leaves me, a month left owning the .com, can I buy it again through WP when it runs out, does that make any sense??! -
Hi –
Can you share the actual domain with us, alicejcollyer? This will help me piece together more information to help you.
In general, when a domain expires it goes through a redemption period. Then, after a few months, it is available to be registered again as new. There’s no guarantee that you’ll get to it first though, and someone else could take ownership of it. For this reason, it’s best to try and get the ownership sorted out now and make a renewal of the registration if possible.

It’s aliceinscandiland.com I can’t remember if I bought the .co.uk as well, I should know shouldn’t I!
Chances are no one else would buy it, but it is a worry.
If I renewed with TSOhost, could WP then take it on somehow? -
The bigger issue is that a domain squatter can pick it up. Then they’ll hold it hostage and you’ll have to pay a higher fee for it or not sell it at all. There’s nothing we can do to prevent that, sadly!
You should renew your domain through the domain provider. It looks to be registered through http://www.paragon.net.uk and the site is hosted through tso. This way you maintain ownership of it.
WordPress.com is not able to accept domain transfers, so what you’ll do is setup domain mapping in order for aliceinscandiland.com to load your WordPress.com site. Does that sound like what you’re trying to do?
Remember that if you map the domain to WordPress.com we assume the hosting too. You wouldn’t need tso any longer.
