Looking to build website

I have several questions.
-I am looking at migrating from our current website to using WordPress.com.
-We are a quilt guild. The website shares information of our group with multiple pages, links to pdfs, images, calendar, link to facebook, and email option. It is limited for customization for page background options. Currently page outline is defined and then all text is HTML code. They do not offer the option for WordPress. We actually do not have a domain name as we are page on their website. We do not sell.
-I am familiar with wordpress for another website that is hosted by another provider. WP is installed on their server. I do not have it installed on my personal PC.
-Questions
Is wordpress.com – my option not .org? We do not blog.
Do I use wordpress on your server and you host our website?
Do you have multiple servers that are mirror for hosting websites? What is your up time performance?
What is our live support options? Who are you and your stablility as a company?
I know that I can link Gmail calendar, facebook and want to look at contact email option. I know that I can link PDFs and other website links.
What about linking slideshows, videos, youtubes?
From reviewing the pricing, I think that Premium is my option. ????

You are welcome to choose which flavor of WordPress works for you. Both are a great platform for websites: https://get.wp.com/
If you use WordPress.com, we host it. If you use the free software, you host with another provider.

What slideshow platform are you using? You can insert a slideshow made here into a post or page. Embedding a Youtube video is done by pasting a link to the video.

As far as slide shows – my first thought would be Powerpoint but if there is an option with WordPress to use instead I think that would work but would like to know more or see an example????
Customizing backgrounds – would like to know if it is possible to import background images for the pages that would be more relevant to quilting OR ????
Do I understand correctly that if you are hosting the website then I would be able to use WordPress to develop the webpage from your servers and it would not be installed on my PC?
I would like to verify the pricing for website and domain name for the Premium option? How long would it take to get started and register a domain name? Do you recommend the .COM option versus .ORG?

There is no need to use PowerPoint, we provide the option to add slideshows directly to your site:

Yes, that’s possible. The quilting images you want to use can be uploaded to the Media Library and added to various areas of the site. It’s worth noting that the exact location of the background images will be determined by your theme but we can suggest a few that may be suitable.

That’s correct, the site would be hosted by us and customised through your WordPress.com account.

That shows the monthly cost and we bill for 12 months in one yearly payment. Paid plans include a credit which can be used to register one custom domain as part of the plan cost.
How long would it take to get started and register a domain name?
Once you have created a site and registered a custom domain, you can get started straight away :)
Do you recommend the .COM option versus .ORG?

If you don’t want to take care of site security, backups and maintenance yourself then I think creating a site on WordPress.com would be a better option. But I’m happy to answer any questions you have about which would be more suitable.

@rasrjs it depends on what kind of content is on your site. Are you posting new quilt patterns regularly? events? Or is it more of a static site with an about page / contact / etc?
You’d be welcome to get started by adding some content to a free site.
Clarifying on background images: many themes will let you change the background image for the whole site.
About separate background images for each page: it’s possible with a custom design upgrade (included in the Premium and Business plans) and some CSS, but we may be able to recommend a better option than a background image anyway.

The site would have a main page with a custom design that would reflect quilting for the background. The secondary pages would possibly have a different background but some may have different from others depending on the topic. The website will be to promote our quilt guild and share information and what we are doing along with links to a calendar, facebook, contact information.
What would the custom design upgrade with Premium cost?
If I do the free site will I be generating a domain name? Would this then free site be live? I am going to check out the free site option.

This website is one that I have done using the feather theme. Here the main and secondary pages background, etc are all the same.
What I would like to see with this site as well as the new one is that the main page has its own look and then the secondary pages would have their own look.
Also as an example on this website on the header portion of the page I would like to have the windows all the way across proportionally. The options that are available do not do this. Is this the Custom Design option you are referring to? Would like to be able to customize then the menu and color titles.

That is not possible. A custom background is applied to the site, not individual pages – this is not theme-specific. On the Premium or Business Plan you might be able to make it work the way you want using custom CSS.

Do you mean the image of stained glass widows at the top?
You can find all our themes that support custom headers and custom backgrounds here:

Most of them show the header image across the full width of the screen, but we don’t have filters to distinguish between different ways the header is displayed.
I suggest you browse through that list and find something that matches the general look you’re after. If you then decide to go with the Premium or Business Plan, you can contact us via live chat and we can help with the CSS needed to tweak the theme’s look to more closely match your specific needs.

I have figured out to make an image with with the windows in a row that will fit the header. But when I remove the logo image ‘Feather’ word returns. How would I remove this? Also I would like to move the Tagline name down below the menu line? Is that possible and how?
These are just some of things that I would want to customize. I am unable to see the themes in the link you shared as we have not created a website/domain as of yet.Thank you for your sharing.
