Looking to make a new website with WordPress while leaving my current website untouched

    Hi there,

I am looking to make a new website with WordPress while leaving my current website (not hosted or made with WordPress) untouched until I’m fully ready to transfer the new one over. I’m wondering if this is possible.

    Hi,

One may create unlimited sites in a single account, and create multiple accounts under different usernames and email addresses. I’m not sure what you mean by transfer a “new site over.” Over to what? One may transfer a site from one WordPress.com account to another. Is that what you mean?

The Moving a Blog support page might help you to identify what type of transfer you’re referring to.

When I download WordPress on my computer, it asks me to enter my website’s hosting information. I am worried that it will take over my current website before I am ready for that. I would prefer to leave the other website as is until the new WordPress website is completely ready.

Thanks for the explanation. If the current website isn’t made on a WordPress platform (WordPress.org or WordPress.com) or hosted on WordPress.com, then I don’t understand why you would be asked about it at all, unless Automattic recognizes some connection to WordPress in other other information provided.

I’ve called for staff attention to the topic. Staff will respond here.

  • You don’t have to download WordPress to your computer, just get started via https://wordpress.com/start

You won’t need to direct your domain to the new site until you’re done: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

The app you downloaded can be used to work with your WordPress site after you’ve created it, but it’s not required, you can work with your site in your browser too. :)
