Lose the top bar

  • Unknown's avatar

This is the semiannual request for a way to DISABLE that damn bar at the top of all wordpress.com pages (the one with me/blog/follow etc) – people should be able to turn if off.

  • Unknown's avatar

It’s very easy to hide it if you have the Custom Design upgrade. But WP doesn’t allow this: if you hide it, your blog will be suspended.

You should realize that if you hide it from your blog, you hide it from me to: when I visit your blog, the tools in the admin bar are my tools, not yours. You may not need them but I and lots of others do.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hide my blog???
I’m talking about visiting wordpress.com and reading and commenting on other peoples blogs. (like say http://josephmallozzi.wordpress.com/ )

And don’t give me any crap about WHAT YOU NEED – *I* don’t want to see it, I should have the OPTION of getting rid of the crap without having to log out all the time.

  • Unknown's avatar

And who the hell did tag this troll?! Typical of retards who don’t accept other peoples (valid!) point of views!

God damn it, I am not trolling I’m serious about this. I’ve almost stopped reading wordpress blogs because of that crap.

I’m not talking about how it looks in a blog, I’m talking about I as a visiting user gets harassed by that stuff, and how I shoudl be allowed to disabled it.

Panos didn’t say anything about hiding your blog.

If you hide the admin bar at the top of your site, it will be hidden for every logged-in wp.com visitor to your site.

You said it: if you don’t want to see it, log out.

If you visit blogs hosted on some other free blogging sites, their equivalent of that bar will be there whether you’re logged in or not. Blogger & Livejournal both come to mind.

The bar contains useful tools that most wp.com users appreciate having.

You can also go to a self-hosted solution and use the wordpress.org software on your own hosted site. No doubt you could tweak it so you would never have to see the “damned bar” again.

A pity you “don’t give a crap” about what others in the community might need or want. It makes it hard for me to work up any sympathy for you. You seem to think that your own needs outweigh anything that anyone else might need. That’s typical of toddlers; fortunately, most of us outgrow that phase.

“Panos didn’t say anything about hiding your blog.

Sure he did (and I don’t have one)

If you hide the admin bar at the top of your site, it will be hidden for every logged-in wp.com visitor to your site. ”

Well that is incomptent design in the ultra extreme then, as a user I should be able to get rid of it without it affecting all other users.

And you keep saying “my site” – I don’t have a site, I an a user visiting “wordpress.com” blogs – I don’t have a site (ok i posted 2 blogs once to see how it worked, but its not for me), but I don’t have anything TO hide for anyone.

I don’t care what the rest of you see, but when *I* – ME – THIS PERSON behind the keyboard visit OTHER PEOPLES BLOGS I don’t need or want to see this bar. I don’t see why this is such a big disaster to some people.

The bar contains useful tools that most wp.com users appreciate having.

Great for them, but why do I have to see it?

You can also go to a self-hosted solution and use the wordpress.org software on your own hosted site. No doubt you could tweak it so you would never have to see the “damned bar” again.

How can I go to a self-hosted solution to READ BLOGS ON WORDPRESS.COM ?

Are you all blind? Do I have to repeat this 500 times? I WANT TO READ BLOGS ON WORDPRESS.COM AND COMMENT THEM, without the damn bar.

A pity you “don’t give a crap” about what others in the community might need or want. It makes it hard for me to work up any sympathy for you.

ARRRGH – I don’t care what color you want your car in! I don’t give a crap what soda you drink or what your favorite football team is – but YOU FORCE ME to have a car of a certain color, drink a certain thing, root for someone specific – that is what I’m objecting to!

I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT REMOVING ANY OF YOUR DAMN ABILITIES – because I don’t care what you chose to use. You can chose whatever the hell you want as long as I don’t have to be forced to. Get it now?!? I just don’t want to see it.

You seem to think that your own needs outweigh anything that anyone else might need.

Since my needs does not affect any of you, your trolling is not relevant. You are the one trying to force stuff on people, not me.

That’s typical of toddlers; fortunately, most of us outgrow that phase.

Yeah I’m 50, so you are probably the child.

  • Unknown's avatar

You said it: if you don’t want to see it, log out.

Oh and, yeah right, so its log in write a comment log out, then log in write a comment log out,log in write a comment log out,log in write a comment log out,log in write a comment log out,log in write a comment log out,log in write a comment log out,log in write a comment log out,log in write a comment log out,log in write a comment log out,log in write a comment log out, over and over and over – that’s bloody annoying. And frankly not acceptable, they need to fix this bad design.

The thread was flagged for Staff attention long ago. Please stop.

  • Unknown's avatar

As I said, some people outgrow it. (And I’m as old as you are, not that it’s relevant to whether you’re rude or not.)

If one person asks politely and reasonably and another asks rudely and insultingly, guess which person I’m likely to listen to?

BTW, in case you weren’t aware, this forum is filled with volunteers. Staff stop by and view the threads, but the majority of people on whom you spewed your rant have zero control over the inner workings of wordpress.com.

I actually have an idea about how what you want could be accomplished in a way that would satisfy most users, those who are actually bloggers who use the bar and need to have it there and those who either aren’t bloggers or who dislike it for whatever aesthetic reasons they may have.

  • Unknown's avatar

    @timethief

Why should I stop when I have been treated unfairly?

I have been accused of things, I didn’t say and don’t want? And called a troll.

  • Unknown's avatar

I spewed “rant” at people who attacked me – if they don’t like people getting upset, they shouldn’t attack them in the first place.

But since this thread is about to get nuked, I’m going to start another one and NOT READ THE REPLIES. And hope for the best.

“not that it’s relevant to whether you’re rude or not.)”

You were rude to me mmadfan, and you haven’t apologized.

  • Unknown's avatar

Btw mmadfan, you don’t seem to have read
please keep comments on the topics at hand and not on other members of the community
before you unwarrantedly attacked me for something you made up with

That’s typical of toddlers; fortunately, most of us outgrow that phase.

  • Unknown's avatar

And to “Hal” who sends me personal hatemail – kindly drop it. I did nothing wrong.

  • Unknown's avatar

Do they have enemas where you come from? Because it would seem not.

  • That for your recommendation, and we have taken it into consideration.

There’s no need to continually re-post this. An option to toggle the admin bar has been on our list of things to consider.

In the future, for everyone involved in this thread, let’s avoid degrading into the realm of personal attacks, even if you feel attacked yourself.
