Lose unwanted widgets Keep featured images

    1) How can I take away the search widget at the top of my page? I want to keep the top of my page clean and focused on the title and header. Instead of using this search button, I need to stick with the search widget I added in the Footer.

    2) How can I get rid of the “Categories” and “Author” widgets at the bottom of each post? I am the only author and will not be using categories (I use “Tags” and added that widget as a Footer) so these are not relevant. I do need to keep the “Comments” section, though.

    3) How can I get my featured image to also show up when I click on the individual post? Aesthetically, I like how the featured image looks on the home page better than inserting it into the post itself. Adding it as a featured image and also inserting it into the post makes it show up twice.

    Thank you!

The search bar at the top of your blog is not a widget, it is part of the theme you use, you can only hide it by purchasing the CSS upgrade and knowing a little about how to write CSS.

The categories and author metadata in individual posts are also not widgets. Widgets only appear in sidebars/footer areas by default and you select them from Appearance > Widgets from your dashboard. The only way to remove them is with CSS.

  • Hi! #1 and #2 could be done using a custom CSS upgrade. This would allow you to hide the divs that contain the search bar, categories, and author information.

You can find more information on that here:

The featured image only displays on the homepage in Bueno. If you’d like the image to appear on both the homepage and individual posts you could try adding it to the very top of your post. This will mimic the look of a featured image.

I apologize – I should have mentioned before that I do have the CSS Upgrade and have been editing where I can. However, I am a rookie with WP and CSS (hence wrongly identifying widgets!) so even after customizing my page significantly and referencing the Custom CSS page I am still not sure how to do #1 and #2.

Is there a specific data I can input to “hide” these items?

    Thank you again!

Looks like you managed it, well done! If you have any other questions specifically related to CSS then the dedicated CSS area of the forums is the best place to post in future.
