Why have I lost 2 years’ worth of BY THE MIGHTY MUMFORD POSTS…2010 and 2011-?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
Your blog bythemightymumford.wordpress.com was created in 2012, so it’s not possible to have posts that date back to 2011 or 2010.
-
@fstat: The user could respond by saying that your record keeping system is in error, which could theoretically happen, so one might as well lay that one to rest, to avoid any possible misunderstandings.
The blog in question found its way into the Internet Archive.

Here is a snapshot from 2013
http://web.archive.org/web/20130303101842/http://bythemightymumford.wordpress.com/
As one can see, the earliest month listed in the 2013 snapshot was October 2012. So, this confirms that there were no 2010 or 2011 posts on that blog. Perhaps he is thinking of another blog.

Friendly suggestion: Automattic could have its system automatically submit posts on public blogs to the Internet Archive and mention to new users that this is being done.
You might have fewer panicked users to deal with, that way, because whatever they thought was lost could be recovered on that other site.

Mr. Caswell,
I’m trying to think of what could have gone wrong.
1. Do you have more than one blog on WordPress? If so, maybe your 2010 and 2011 posts ended up on that blog, by mistake?
2. Did you import your blog from another hosting site? If so, maybe the software importing your content failed to pick up that content?
Hope that didn’t happen to you, but even if it did, all might not be lost. Remember that site I mentioned, the Internet Archive? WordPress.com is not the only site it archives. Go to
and you should see a box for searching for old copies of webpages. If you can remember the url for the old location for your blog (if you’ve moved it here from somewhere else), you might be able to find a copy of your old blog and be able to recover your content, that way.
I hope that works out for you, and if not, maybe somebody will have another idea.

Our logs record the timestamp of when sites are created, but thanks for extra details and follow-up questions for the OP! :)
