Loss of theme options when moving to external hosting
-
I have recently decide to move my website from a free WordPress blog https://sailbritaincoastlineproject.wordpress.com/ to being a hosted website with it’s own domain name – http://www.sailbritain.org/. I was recommended one.com for hosting and buying the domain name and installation wordpress was simple. However I have lost a lot of nice theme options in the move which means the new website doesn’t look anywhere near as good as the current wordpress.com version. I am using the free theme ‘Gateway’. I now have no choice of fonts and I’m only allowed one header image.
Could someone advise me whether this is because the Gateway theme has been updated since I started the wordpress site (about a year ago) to exclude options for the free version, or whether loosing some functionality is to do with it being externally hosted on one.com?
Second question: If I were to host via wordpress with my own domain name, would I be able to keep the site looking EXACTLY as it is currently, or would I encounter the same problem?
Many thanks in advance for your advice!

You may find that you need to install some plugins to your self-hosted site to get the functionality you have on your WordPress.com site.
For example, if you want access to additional fonts, the Easy Google Fonts plugin adds lots of font options to your site.
If you want random header images on the self-hosted site, you’d probably need to explore the plugins and just try some out.
If you stay at WordPress.com and just map your sailbritain.org domain name to sailbritaincoastlineproject.wordpress.com, then it would look exactly the same because it *is* the same site. (Mapping a domain requires upgrading to a paid plan.)
