Loss of Zemanta

For a good whiles I have been using Zemanta to point to other bloggers who were taking part in the Weekly Photo Challenge. Or to include articles from the web that were relevant to my post. Suddenly we have lost the facility. No notice, just an arbitrary decision. I am not happy to say the least. The folks at WordPress say that their new in-house Related Posts is far better. I disagree. In fact I would go so far as to say it is totally useless as it only points to posts from my blog and I have no control over what is considered related. At least with Zemanta I could select how many related posts to add and choose what I consider related.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I’m having the same issue and the suggested alternative does not compare to Zemanta?

There’s a work around if you still want to use Zemanta. Install the Zemanta plugin into your browser. Plugin and instructions at

I know about that and I’ve already done it. But the browser plugin for some reason does not pick up many WordPress blogs, unlike the built in version which did.

I want to be able to recommend other blogs that are writing about the Weekly Challenge and it’s not happening

The Zemanta browser extension is superior to the dashboard version in my estimation because it provides links to my own posts. I have always done my research up front using search engines and I have carefully selected exactly which related posts I will choose to backlink in my posts before I even begin to compose a post. The suggested posts to link to that zemanta provided in the dahsboard were most frequently posts I did not wish to link to.

You manually add those blogs to your Zemanta preferences.

In reply to Timethief. I’ve no doubt the browser version is superior. Generally I use the plugin for Windows Live Writer. But when I’m writing a post for the Weekly Photo Challenge the only related links I want are to other bloggers who are taking part in the challenge. The dashboard version of Zemanta did that very well. The browser version has not picked up one blog that is taking part in this weeks challenge.

Okay I understand that you relied on it. I did not. The bottom line is that WordPress.com is not going to reverse this decision so you will have to adapt.

Did WordPress mention why they made this decision?

Did WordPress even mention this? Somehow I missed the memo! What a loss!
Okay, going over my options, here…sighs…
I know some people are totally smarter and devoted to bic time, but a gift like Zemanta, once tasted, and then removed, hurts. Lots.

Okay, so I found the announcement, thanks to Silvo. Sorry.
And searching support does not link to it. Ah well. I might make a choice like that, too. If I were them.
At least, it appears, they’re gonna teach us to fish. Sighs.
