Lost access to my email account
-
Hi. Years ago, I had started – or tried to start – a blog for my local community. Well, they ended up doing something else. However, my introductory blog page is still hanging out in cyberspace from years ago. I would like to delete it. I’ve tried entering all my old email addresses that I still have access to, and WordPress says there is no username associated with those addresses. I used to have another old email account which I won’t share publicly, but that service doesn’t exist anymore, and I can no longer access that account because there is no tech support. I have reached out to them to reset my email password numerous times and it won’t go through or get a response. I know that’s the email address I used, because when I put that address in the WordPress login page, it prompts me to enter my password, or get a recovery email sent to that address.
I was trying to enter a support request to recover my account here on WordPress, however it’s not enough for me to provide my old email address and blog address to submit a ticket. I’m not even allowed to submit a request without first giving “valid proof of ownership” codes, all of which were sent to my registered email account, duh! Why make me enter information that I can’t recover in order to recover it? There is no general support email address or phone number for me to call, so I have been forced to post publicly on your forum, and I guess share my email address and other personal information, in order to prove my identity and get some kind of help with my account. And since I’m forced to post publicly to get tech support, I don’t have a problem letting everyone else know how frustrating this process has been. It’s absolutely infuriating, and unprofessional for a website platform as large as WordPress to have a support process this inefficient. I’m trying to take charge of all my old digital data and email addresses, and delete old accounts which might have my personal information. Now that we know how bad the digital information security crisis is, and how easy it is for our information to be hacked, it’s completely unethical for WordPress to not have an efficient and respectful way to deal with account recovery. “Sorry, you have to have the original account codes we went you or you can’t email us” just isn’t good enough. Even Google is better at this.
If my registered email isn’t proof enough for you, I do have the messenger conversations between myself and my colleagues where we were discussing blog names and I sent out the final address of the blog where I made my first post. I would be glad to email you those screen shots of those dated messages, showing when I set up the account and the subject matter and the blog address. I also have a proof of purchase for the expired email address in question, because thankfully they sent a proof of purchase to the email address that I still currently use, and that I was forced to use to create a new profile here on WordPress and post on this forum. So that should prove to you that it’s me. I can send you all those screenshots if it’s necessary, and I was prepared to do so, before I found out I wasn’t allowed to email you. I would really appreciate it if WordPress could do something about this, so I can get into my old account and delete my information.

Hi,
I just emailed tech support explaining the situation and included a link to this post, along with the exact information regarding my registered email address that I can no longer access, and blog address, and a screen shot of the conversation where my friends and I picked the address. The message is literally dated to the day I set up the account. I then asked if they wanted screen shots of when I purchased the email account.
The tech support person then replied to my message with absolutely nothing except to ask me that I email him from the registered address that I said I was locked out of, to “prove” I’m the owner. No recognition of a thing I said, or the evidence included.
There is absolutely no excuse for this kind of incompetency.

Hi there,
I understand your frustration with this and would be happy to take another look at your account and see if there is anything we can do.
I’ll respond to the email that you have been in once I take a look at the account.
Thanks,
-
Thank you! I appreciate it.
Update: Darnell examined all the evidence I submitted, and I had more than enough to prove that I owned the account, so he reinstated it to me.
I also asked that they look over their account recovery request form and update it, so no one gets locked out of an account they truly own.
