We had a website design company in Bowling Green, Kentucky create a new website for us, a local nonprofit a few years ago. Recently we asked a local university student run company to update our site. They moved it without telling us and now we do not seem to have access to our WordPress website and the media library with all of our files. Is there a way for us to access the backend of the website or at least the media library so that we can get the files? This student group doesn’t seem to know how to do it. The original web design company has been no help even though they are the ones who created the WordPress website and set up all of the log in information. Now we don’t seem to have any access to anything WordPress. How can we prove ownership for the site if everything went through this web design company? We have the user name and password to the WordPress website but those don’t seem to work any more. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hey! Sorry you’re having trouble accessing the site. Is it hosted here on our servers? If so we have an account recovery process here:
    https://wordpress.com/support/account-recovery/#account-recovery-form

Basically whoever is paying for it can likely regain access.

If the site is hosted with a different hosting provider, I’d recommend contacting them and asking for help with this:
    https://wordpress.org/support/article/resetting-your-password/

Adding: if you still need help, could you send a link to the site? We can check it out and point you in the right direction.
