Lost big chunk of text–missing from revisions
-
I accidentally clicked undo and it deleted a large chunk of my written text. The redo button was not available and that missing information is not one of the revisions available for me to restore. Any idea why, if it autosaves every few seconds, is this huge a block of text missing??

If you cannot restore from your browser, or locate a revision, or restore from Trash then the content has been lost and cannot be recovered.
re: recovering a lost post or page
Please go to https://wordpress.com/post with the same browser and see if it offers to restore a post. If a restore button appears, that means a local copy was saved in your browser and you may be able to recover it.If the post was created on the dashboard of your own blog at Dashboard > Pages > Add New then you ought to be able to recover a lost post or page from revisions if needed.

Yes, my guess is that you are not using a desktop computer and not using the classic interface. I believe you are describing either a browser related issue or a connectivity issue.
Make sure you are running an up to date browser version found at https://browsehappy.com Try clearing your browser cache https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-your-browser-cache and see the tips here https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/

Just to confirm, I am using a laptop computer using whatever interface the Safari browser uses.

Also, the big chunk of text was added to the bottom of the previous text between 2 Mar @ 16:29 and 2 Mar @ 17:00.

It was my most recent post from yesterday. I tried to summarize what I lost and then published. Hoping that maybe the lost paragraph is recoverable though.

You can see the revision history of that post here:

Use the slider at the top to look back through previous versions and search for the text you’re missing. If the content in question autosaved before you accidentally deleted it, you should be able to find it there. If you can’t find it, it means it was deleted before we could autosave, and in that case we won’t be able to get it back for you.

Unfortunately it is not in the revisions available. I just find it odd as it autosaves every few minutes and it took me about 15 minutes to write.
-
Autosave doesn’t trigger while you keep on writing, as that would cause problems. Instead, it’s supposed to trigger if you pause writing for a few seconds. So most likely you were just going too quickly for autosave to keep up. If there was any problem with your internet connection in this time it could also have prevented autosave from working.
I know it won’t help you now, but something I use to prevent this is the Lazarus browser extension (available for Chrome and Firefox). It’s basically a second layer of autosave, and allows you to recover text typed into a web form, or the editor in this case, so you can restore it in the event of a browser crash, a network disconnection, or even an autosave failure.
