Hello. I made significant additions and edits to a blog post ‘Sometimes all you need is something to focus on’ on Monday, July 19 and they’ve all disappeared! I’ve tried the suggestions I can find and the revisions are all from July 13. I worked for quite awhile on Monday and I know that in addition to autosave I clicked save draft a few times and I have no idea what’s happened. Can you help? I really don’t want to have to rewrite! I did start making a few edits this morning before I realized I was looking at the wrong version… hopefully that didn’t overwrite things.

Hi there!
That sounds really frustrating :(
Were you working on the same device the whole time? Or have you changed between the mobile and browser versions?

HI! I was working on the same device the whole time (my laptop, so browser version) because I don’t like writing on mobile…

It’s not immediately clear to us; can you tell us if you have already tried working within the saved Revisions, as is documented here?

Hi. I have tried looking for the saved revisions, and there is nothing there at all from July 19, when I worked on my post for 45min to an hour and am sure I hit the manual save button a few times in addition to the autosave feature. The revisions are only showing from my previous session of working on it, July 13. It’s like July 19 didn’t happen, which shouldn’t be possible, but that’s what I’m seeing. I even had a friend who uses WordPress more extensively than I do have a look and he can’t find the July 19 revisions either.

Hi there,
I can see that there are no revisions on that post saved from July 19 either. It might mean that when you were working on July 19, either the internet connection had trouble or the browser was having issues connecting/saving the changes to WordPress.com. Even if you weren’t manually saving, we would automatically save the changes every once in a while. The only reason I can think of as to why that wouldn’t happen is if there was a connection issue (in which case, the editor would usually show that it’s trying to auto-save, but would not say that it’s saved). That’d mean the changes weren’t actually saved on our servers. :(
Do you recall if it said the changes were actually saved? At this point, I suspect they weren’t, as the revisions are the only place they would be if they were.
Your browser also saves a local copy of the changes in the editor. If you aren’t seeing a prompt to restore from the local revision when you open the post editor on the same browser, it’s likely that the local copy is no longer there. In which case, I’m afraid the changes/revisions from July 19 are no longer there to be restored. :(
