My domain subscription was set to auto-renew through WordPress on 5/31/16. I recently canceled my hosting account through another company for a couple weeks, then reactivated it. My domain name is no longer registered to me. Where did it go?

Hi there,
Your domain, drnataliehanan.com, was not renewed – the last payment on record for your account was in June 2015 – so it expired and was removed from our account. It is currently in redemption with our registrar.
It should still be possible for us to get your domain back from redemption, but our registrar charges a $80 fee to do this, in addition to the $26 to renew the domain. If you agree to pay this fee, please let me know and I’ll send you an email with more information.

Yes, I am interested in getting it back. I am curious as to why this happened, though. I have record of an email in May telling me that my domain was set to auto-renew, and there was no further action that I needed to take. My credit card on file was current, so I’m not sure why this happened?
