lost domain
-
I didn’t change my name or e-mail address but the autorization code looked odd. It starts with some odd symbols:
^!D6A…..
Is that the norm? -
Transfer codes do contain special characters, yes, and are randomly generated by the domain registrar.
I have emailed them to ask for an explanation on why the domain is locked, and to remove the lock if it was incorrectly added. Meanwhile, should I go ahead and add the A-records for you to point the domain to Squarespace?
-
Not sure what the A-record is, but I’d be really grateful if you could help me to point the domain to Squarespace.
Many thanks ! :-) -
Okay, I’ve added the A records for you, but you also need to add what’s called a CNAME. That is unique to your site, so you need to get that from Squarespace.
Their instructions to get that is here:
https://support.squarespace.com/hc/en-us/articles/206542027
Their instructions also show how to add it on our end, but you can also reply here with the unique code once you have it and I can add it for you if you prefer.
-
Thats really great! Thank you.
I’m tied up today, but will find the CNAME over the weekend and send it to you.
I really appreciate all your help :-) -
I’ve heard back from our registrar, and you should be able to transfer the domain now – they have removed the lock.
If you first want to get that CNAME to me so we can add it, your domain can already show the Squarespace site even while it’s transferring, but we don’t have to do that.
-
Ok… I think I’ve got the CNAME:
ph8c25dl7t2ehdmsw6dz CNAME verify.squarespace.com ingalisamiddleton.comThere was more info in the columns below this one… do you need that as well?
-
Or perhaps this is more clear:
HOST : ph8c25dl7t2ehdmsw6dz
RECORD: CNAME
Required Data: verify.squarespace.com
Current Data: ingalisamiddleton.com -
In the next line there was this info:
HOST : www
RECORD: CNAME
Required Data: ext-cust.squarespace.com
Current Data: Correct -
I’d be really grateful if you could please help me to do the final transfer Many thanks :-)
-
Perfect. I’ve added the last CNAME, so as soon as you complete the verification on Squarespace’s end the domain should start showing your site there.
You can now start the transfer process as well.

Yay! The website works now! So happy! Thank you so much! You are indeed a Happiness Engineer! :-)
