Lost Domain – Can't Access Admin Page Either

  • Unknown's avatar

    I wanted to change the domain name from (let’s say) example.com to thisisprettymessedupguys.com.

    So I found on siteground.com that wordpress had a function for this that you can add to the functions.php file to rename the URL.

    The function that I used was:

    update_option( ‘ siteurl ‘ , ‘ http://www.thisisprettymessedupguys.com ‘ );
    update_option (‘ home ‘ , ‘ http://www.thisisprettymessedupguys.com ‘ );

    And I entered this code after (probably) the first two lines of code in the file. I first entered literally http://www.thisisprettymessedupguys.com to test it out before actually giving it a new name.

    I saved the file and wordpress just exited me out from the admin site. I tried launching the new URL and it didn’t work. The old URL still exists but I am unable to access the admin (backend editor) page for the old or the new one to go fix the problem.

    Any guidelines, suggestions or solutions please?
    Any help will be greatly appreciated!

    I SHOULD ADD: When I try to login through the admin page for either URL

    1) The wordpress logo is not displayed. Instead, ‘ss_site_title’ is in it’s place.
    2) After entering the login information, when I click Log In (or press enter), it jumps to another page which says “webpage not available” and the URL box has localhost written in it.

    Figured I throw in some extra details to make the problem more clear

    Hi, you are in the wrong forum.
    This forum is for blogs/sites hosted by WordPress.com

    WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and different http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

    And you should ask in the WordPress.org forum.
